“Good as Gone” – Amy Gentry

3.6 out of 4 stars.

Wow! What a mind-warp of a book.

As usual, youngster Jane wakes up in the middle of the night to creep into her sister Julie’s bedroom to escape the demons of the night. She knows she will protect her from the monsters under the bed. Little did she know she was walking into a kidnapping. She hid in the closest and saw a man with a knife pry his sister out into the night. It would be the last time she sees her older sibling for 8 years. Jane, her mother, and her father are an obvious mess for what seems like ages until one night when Julie rings her home’s doorbell and just like that she is back. Anna, Julie and Jane’s mother is beyond excited and doesn’t want to leave her side. However, her oldest daughter seems to be acting peculiar. Yes, that may seem like a common occurrence after being taken but this is different. Anna begins to wonder if this is really her daughter at all or someone playing a part.

A very quick and suspenseful book that kept me on my toes. A little confusing at times because while Julie was in her “missing” stages she bared many names and that lead to me questioning everything. Yes, this novel is dark but not to the point of Gillian Flynn standards so it wasn’t disturbing for me to read which I prefer.

In my opinion, hard to find a mystery thriller that doesn’t over due it and I think this one was just the right amount of dramatic but realistic.
