I am STILL scared as I write this.
Apparently I am a little late to join the Patterson fan club with this being my first book I ever read by him and it turns out he has sold over 300 million copies of his stories throughout the years!
As mentioned in previous posts I am absolutely obsessed with watching Dateline and other true crime stories. However, besides the Gillian Flynn books, I hardly partake in reading scary tales. I have to say Patterson is clearly not a beginner in making sure his audience is captivated, shaken up, and thoroughly sketched out when the finish a book by him. Invisible is no different. I have already checked out the window twice and thought I heard something outside in the woods as I write this. I am usually not a sissy!
Emmy Dockery has just lost her sister to a reported fire “accident”. She has a gut feeling that something is off with this write-up. Having recently been put on leave to grieve from her job at the FBI, Emmy begins to research past arson in the area hoping to stumble upon something or anything really. She begins to create a small case that she believes someone murdered her sister and that he or she has killed others as well in the same gruesome acts. She brings onto her team her former fiance, Harrison Bookman, to help her sniff out the trail. Bookman is able to get approval to open a case and away we go down this dark road.
Every time I hear a story about a true crime I always make mental notes of how to make sure I am always protected. Even if it is something that I have heard all my life (i.e. don’t get in a car with a stranger) I still repeat it over and over so I remember. Although this is not based on a true story, reading books like this just reiterate how careful everyone needs to be while going about their life. I read once that most murders are not random and usually take place by someone you have run into before. Patterson completely blows the top off that theory and I believe that is why I am so scared. No one is safe!
I 100 percent cannot give away any spoilers because this was a classic page turner all the way to the end. I also loved the finale.
James Patterson’s dark streak makes him a similar author to Gillian Flynn so if you liked any of her books I would recommend this.
