This one took me by surprise!
Kathryn and Chris are live-in long time lovers. They have been dating for what seems like forever. Through this they have adapted their own secret language, are each other’s rock, and are the true definition of one another’s other half; Ying and yang. You get the picture. It was one of their “tell each other everything” at the end of the day talks, that Chris admitted he had a school boy crush on this woman, Emily, he sees at the laundromat. Instead of Kathryn flying off the handle or simply shrugging her shoulders to laugh it off, she instead encourages him to explore his feelings. Kathryn thinks it will be best to not hold him close but to rather have him explore his temptations. Chris is hesitant but decides to take a chance (very unlike him).
Over the next year, Kathryn and Chris end up in an open relationship and polyamory. Both are clueless of how they got there. Although they had the beginning outlook in common their ending perspective is very different.
Now, this book was given to me or else I fear I would of not picked it up due to my own old school and traditional perspective on love (less close-minded and more nervous nelly). With the beginning months of all this I felt sick to my stomach over how Chris was treating Kathryn but as the book progressed I was at a loss of whom I felt bad for. How could that happen? I believe it was due to the wonderful writing that Zoey Leigh Peterson had. She was able to make me see all different sides of this bizarre love SQUARE. Bravo because just reading the inside flap I was pretty convinced I would be dead set on my thought process.
I recommend for anyone that likes to broaden their mind and see an honest exploration played out for these newly labeled adults. Take it from me who would never do this myself, it is still fascinating to see it unfold.
