“The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year” by Andy Cohen

3 stars out of 4.

Welp, my head is still spinning after reading this. I don’t know if that is necessarily a good sign or not. I have NEVER in my life heard this much gossip rolled up into one outlet. Please be aware that is a big statement coming from me because I have been known to watch the same Real Housewives of WHEREVER episode four or five times in one sitting. No shame here.

Sarah Jessica Parker summed up the book best when she said, “After reading this funny, intimate, candid, honest diary of a year in Andy’s life, I couldn’t help but wonder, “Is Andy Cohen…Carrie Bradshaw?” I completely agree with her. It is as if I was watching a seven hour marathon of a Sex and the City while I read this book. Similar to the series, Cohen’s book is bursting at the seams with celebs, awkward dates, and dish sessions amongst friends.

Unlike the S.I.T.C series, Andy’s celebs do not appear for just one chapter/episode. They are all close friends to him and he mostly refers to them throughout the book on a first name basis. It was as if I needed a Hollywood road map to understood who he was sitting around the table with for a casual lunch on a Tuesday.  I highly recommend buying this book instead of getting it on your iPad. It was getting difficult for me to read a page, highlight a name, and then try to google it without losing my spot in the text.

I am glad he chose this year to be the one he reflects on through diary entries because it is during the time he adopts Wacha, his rescue dog. Now when I view “Watch What Happens Live” I see Andy in a different light. Don’t get me wrong, I still see him as a man who has a bajillion dollars, calls the entire Academy Awards’ roster his baes, and never has a night in, but now I know that means squat compared to him hanging with his new pup!

All in all I believe this is a good beach read because it is as much as you want it to be. If you would like to read line by line and really discover all the juicy gossip – go for it! If you are more of a occasional reader this book will be a delight because it is not too involved, so it isn’t hard to pick up and drop from time to time.

Let me know your thoughts and remember what Jimmy Fallon says, “Andy Cohen’s diaries are the literary equivalent of a Fresca and tequila”. So there’s that. Andy-Cohen
