“in a dark, dark wood” – ruth ware

3.6 out of 4 stars.

Quick and stimulating read !

I absolutely love crime mysteries and so does Leonora Shaw, the lead character in this book, who is a writer that focuses on that specific subject. While on her computer completing a piece she receives an email from a woman she has never met before by the name of Flo asking if she would like to attend a bachelorette party at her family home for Clare.

Clare? clare. Could it be the same clare from childhood?

Clare and Leonora have not spoken for 10 years and they didn’t say goodbye on concrete terms. Something happened to Leonora and she left school and never came back. No words mentioned. You can imagine how weird it is for her to receive an email asking to celebrate Clare since they have lost touch. Leonora lives alone and writes alone. She decides maybe it would be good for her to get some exposure to people so she agrees to attend.

The rest they say you can read if you dare..

No I am just kidding. The book is not scary just eery.

I had my reservations based on the cover of the book that looks rather scary but it did leave me on my toes each chapter due to sheer creepiness. What isn’t scarier than a bunch of girls gathering together and fighting back and forth?

I actually marked this book on Goodreads as something I wanted to read because Reese Witherspoon highly recommended it and her and I (only thing in common) have similar book interests. I also think that if she reads a book it may turn into a movie someday and that is my second hobby besides reading is comparing a book to the movie. Anyone else?

All in all I think this book is a great read to follow up behind something like “Girl on the Train” or “Reconstructing Amelia” and it will surely get you talking but I do not think you will remember it in about a year.

Sadie LOVES mysteries so this is her version of a smile after finishing it
